Stray Dog Population Linked to Poor Waste Management
The dean of veterinarians, Ahmed Rajeb, stated on Friday that "the proliferation of stray dogs is closely linked to the accumulation of waste in the streets, in addition to the presence of mosquitoes and insects." He emphasized that he is "against culling operations, but there is no alternative if the dogs are stray and ferocious."
Speaking by phone on the radio, Rajeb explained that "a clean environment is a collective responsibility, and the state has a duty to protect its citizens." He mentioned that "children are now afraid to go to school for fear of being intercepted and attacked by stray dogs on public roads."
Rajeb called on animal protection associations to propose alternative solutions to culling animals that pose a danger to citizens, if such solutions exist. He stressed the need for a collective effort to address the issue of stray dogs and to find humane and effective solutions to protect both humans and animals.
