Under the Slogan "Date Month", the Interprofessional Group of Dates Installed a Market

The Interprofessional Group of Dates has set up a market to sell the best Tunisian dates at preferential prices adapted to the purchasing power of citizens. This initiative will continue until December 7 to support the marketing of dates on the domestic market and promote local consumption.

We visited this sales exhibition and were surprised by what should be the case, where the initiative is taken to open "producer to consumer" sales points. Indeed, the prices are incredible. We thought they were limited to a category of dates, but that was not the case. The best dates were effectively priced at seven dinars per kilo. A lower quality, which included dates from last season, reached twelve dinars on the side of the Ariana market!

The reason is simple: those who exhibited were truly selected producers, and only those with this quality were allowed to participate. With no intermediaries or traffickers, the clientele, many of whom came from cities in the interior of the Republic, benefited from this initiative. They stocked up for Ramadan.

This action, which aimed to boost the domestic market and help date producers market their products at reasonable prices, taking into account the purchasing power of citizens, was a success. It would be useful to organize such events in all governorate capitals.

The date harvest in Tunisia for the 2025-2026 season, which is expected to reach around 404,000 tons, including 347,000 tons of the Deglet Nour variety and 57,000 tons of other varieties, will for once be profitable for Tunisian consumers.

Exhibition-Sale Details

The exhibition-sale, located on Habib Bourguiba Avenue, a few meters from the Tunis maritime station, covers an area of approximately 500 square meters. About forty exhibitors from the governorates of Kébili and Tozeur, the two main date-producing regions in Tunisia, were busy, helpful, and welcoming, offering not only excellent quality dates but also date-based products. These included coffee made from date pits, which, when tasted, had a very acceptable flavor. It's ideal for those who can't tolerate caffeine.

"The coffee made from date pits is caffeine-free, rich in antioxidants, fiber, and minerals (potassium, magnesium, iron). Its benefits include promoting digestive health, regulating blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and potentially supporting kidney function and milk production. It's perfect for those looking for an alternative to traditional coffee and is often considered an excellent substitute, especially for people sensitive to caffeine," assured a young man, who had come to lend a hand to his family.

Other products, such as jams, sugar, etc., are on display, and it's ultimately a discovery that has surprised many. It's definitely worth visiting, encouraging, and generalizing.
