Tunisian Customs Successfully Engaged Approximately 4,000 Customs Cases in the First Quarter of 2026
According to Colonel-Major Chokri Jabri, the spokesperson for the General Directorate of Customs, the Tunisian customs authority has successfully engaged approximately 4,000 customs cases in the first quarter of 2026. The value of seizures made in these cases exceeded 51 million dinars.
The spokesperson highlighted that these results are significant in the fight against smuggling and commercial fraud. Customs operations led to the seizure of substantial amounts of currency and merchandise, including over 700,000 euros, approximately three kilograms of gold, and over 80,000 cartons of cigarettes. The authorities also seized 148,000 pieces of ready-to-wear clothing and over 24,000 pairs of sports shoes.
The spokesperson emphasized that customs services have intensified their control campaigns in recent times, focusing particularly on products that pose a risk to consumer health, in light of the surge in attempts to smuggle and distribute unknown or non-compliant goods.
In this context, customs services successfully seized over 17 tons of coffee and 197 tons of various foodstuffs that were being distributed illegally on public roads or in clandestine warehouses and premises. Additionally, approximately 18,000 counterfeit medicines and 53,000 cosmetic products were seized. The seizures also included around 30 tons of dried fruits, as well as over 1.172 million pieces of fireworks and firecrackers that had a notable circulation during the month of Ramadan.
