Joint Inspection Campaign in Tunis Governorate Uncovers 119 Economic Offenses

A joint inspection campaign, conducted yesterday Tuesday in the Tunis governorate by the Regional Directorate of Commerce of Tunis, resulted in the detection of 119 economic offenses after carrying out 388 control visits in 15 intervention zones in the region. The campaign also led to the seizure of over 370 kg of lamb meat.

Sihem Mebrouk, Director of the Regional Directorate of Commerce of Tunis, stated to the Tunis Afrique Presse news agency that this campaign is part of an intensive effort targeting public establishments in the Tunis governorate. Thirteen economic control teams from the directorates of Ariana, Manouba, Ben Arous, and Tunis, as well as the Directorate of Economic Investigations, participated in the campaign.

She added that the detected offenses included hoarding, speculation, marketing of goods of unknown origin, and bidding aimed at disrupting the normal functioning of the market, particularly in the red meat sector, as well as illegal price increases.

Ms. Mebrouk specified that the joint economic control teams were able to seize 373 kg of lamb meat for bidding and market disruption in the El Manarât and El Manazeh areas. They also seized 70 kg of pears for price speculation in Jardins de Carthage, as well as 250 boxes of green and red tea, 50 kg of coffee, and 120 kg of chocolate spread originating from smuggling.

The official emphasized that control work will continue to combat all abuses that may negatively affect the normal course of prices and to sanction offenders.
