Tunisian Ministry of Trade and Export Development Sets Maximum Chicken Prices
Date: Saturday, 9 March 2026
The Ministry of Trade and Export Development announced the introduction of maximum price limits for chicken sales:
| Market segment | Maximum price (millimes per kilogram) |
|---|---|
| Slaughterhouses (wholesale) | 5,300 millimes/kg |
| Retail sales | 7,500 millimes/kg |
Call for Transparency from the Poultry Supply Chain
The ministry has urged all actors in the poultry distribution sector to provide the central and regional trade services with any available information on:
- Purchase prices
- Sales methods used by producers and distributors
- Any indicators of excessive pricing or anti‑competitive behavior
Why This Measure Was Needed
Recent observations revealed that some chicken producers and poultry meat distributors were repeatedly applying excessive price hikes, which:
- Disrupted distribution channels
- Complicated the ministry’s efforts to ensure fair pricing for a staple food item essential to household budgets
Legal Consequences
The ministry reminded stakeholders that maximum legal and administrative sanctions will be imposed on anyone found guilty of illegal speculative practices.
