In a Transmission Between Generations, and a Moment of Reflection, Tunisia Commemorates the 72nd Anniversary of the Assassination of the Great National Martyr Hédi Chaker
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Tunisia pays tribute to the 72nd anniversary of the assassination of Hédi Chaker, a great martyr of the nation. Kidnapped from his home while under surveillance in Nabeul, he was cowardly shot and his body was savagely lynched. This extremely violent murder occurred just a few months after the assassination of another major figure in the national movement, the trade union leader Farhat Hached, who fell under the bullets of agents of the "main rouge" on December 5, 1952, near Radès.
Ceremony of Reflection and Tribute
At the initiative of the Hédi Chaker Martyr Association, a ceremony of reflection and tribute will be held this Saturday morning at the Chaari cemetery in Sfax, on the road to Tunis. Professor Ahmed Friaa will speak on this occasion to recall the long and painful struggle led by the deceased since his early youth within the Néo-Destour party, as well as the years of prison and exile endured in Tunisia, in Lambèse, Algeria, and at Fort Saint-Nicolas in France, which was then under German occupation.
