Motorcycles Contribute to at Least 42% of Road Deaths and Accidents in Tunisia
Colonel Aymen Ben Ibrahim, rapporteur of the steering committee for the National Multisectoral Road Safety Strategy at the Ministry of Interior, revealed that motorcycles contribute to at least 42% of road deaths and accidents in Tunisia.
During his intervention on National Radio on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Colonel specified that pedestrians occupy the second place after motorcycles, representing 25% of road fatalities.
He emphasized that two-wheelers are the most dangerous on the roads because, in the event of a collision, the driver or passenger suffers the most severe damage due to a significantly lower level of protection compared to a car.
The rapporteur of the National Road Safety Strategy explained that the increase in the number of deaths, compared to the overall decrease in the number of accidents compared to previous years, is mainly due to the speed at the time of impact.
He stated that excessive speed and lack of control on certain axes, particularly between urban and rural areas, are the main causes of the increase in road mortality.
