Accident Involving Two Light Rail Trains on Lines 3 and 5
Yesterday, around 11:30 am, an accident involving two light rail trains, lines 3 and 5, occurred between the Meftah Saadallah and Rommana stations. The collision happened while the train on line 5 was not stopped and was circulating normally on its usual track. These two lines share a common track before a bifurcation, with line 3 turning right towards Ibn Khaldoun and line 5 continuing straight towards the El Intilaka city. Initial observations indicate that the impact occurred just before line 3 began its turn. How could such an accident occur on this section? Was the speed of the trains a factor? The hypothesis of human error is at the center of the questions: inattention, drowsiness, or the use of a phone by a driver? A technical malfunction in the trains or signaling is also being considered. For now, no conclusion can be drawn. The Director of Communication and External Relations at Transtu, speaking on the airwaves of Mosaique FM, confirmed the immediate opening of an investigation. Two investigation commissions, one within Transtu and the other at the Ministry of Transport, have been tasked with conducting the investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident and establish the responsibilities of each party. Despite the shock, the passengers were mostly victims of fright. However, about forty people among the travelers suffered from malaise or were slightly injured. Four people, including a security agent who was in the driver's cabin and in a fairly serious condition, were admitted to the hospital and are currently under control. This accident highlights two major issues: the need for maintenance and renewal of certain metro trains, which are considered very old, as well as the importance of ongoing training for metro drivers, which must focus on vigilance during service and awareness of passenger safety.
