Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy Inaugurates Extension of CMR Tunisia's Production Unit
The Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the extension of the production unit of the French company CMR Tunisia on Thursday, September 11. CMR Tunisia specializes in the manufacture of electrical wires and sensors for internal combustion engines used in boats, civil engineering equipment, and power generators.

The event took place in the Mghira industrial zone, in the governorate of Ben Arous, in the presence of:
- Governor Abdelhamid Boukaddida
- French Ambassador to Tunisia Anne Guégan
- Chief of Cabinet Afaf Chachhi Tayari
- Executive Director of the company Yves Barraquand
- General Manager of the Tunisian subsidiary Zinedine Ben Hadid The ceremony also brought together high-ranking officials from the ministry, representatives from the General Directorate of Customs, and several partners and economic actors.
Minister's Statement
In her speech, Fatma Thabet Chiboub highlighted the importance of this project, which will contribute to the development of Tunisian exports in the electrical and electronic industries sector and open up new opportunities for cooperation with leading global companies. "This project strengthens Tunisia's position as a competitive industrial platform capable of competing in international markets," she said.
Project Objectives
The minister specified that this initiative is part of the ministerial plan to stimulate the national economy and double exports in the sector to reach $7 billion by 2030, while integrating Tunisia into industrial value chains. She added that the country is mobilizing all its industrial and technological infrastructure, as well as its national skills and expertise, to attract more investments in this strategic sector.
Production Unit Details
The new unit covers an area of approximately 11,000 square meters and has production lines using advanced technologies, ensuring high quality and efficiency in line with international standards. The investment amount is around 3 million dinars.
Company Background
Founded in 2001, CMR Tunisia also has a second production site in Hergla, in the governorate of Sousse, which provides around 100 jobs. The company achieved a turnover of 16 million dinars in 2024 and contributed to the creation of 600 jobs, including 63 for engineers and senior technicians. The expansion project is expected to create additional jobs, bringing the total to 600 jobs by 2026.
Group Overview
The CMR group has a total of four production sites worldwide, ensuring around 1,000 jobs. It is now part of the American group Amphenol Corporation, which has around 240 production sites and employs over 130,000 people internationally, collaborating with major companies like Cummins, Waukesha, and Wabtec, present in many countries, including France, the United Kingdom, China, and India.
