The regional teams of the National Food Safety Authority (INSSPA) in Kairouan have conducted a series of intensive inspections targeting restaurants and food shops in the area over the past few days.

Seizure of Unfit Food Products

These operations resulted in the seizure of:

  • 300 liters of milk and yogurt
  • 30 kg of smen (a type of fermented butter) of unknown origin The seized products were stored in unsanitary conditions, emitting strong, foul odors. Additionally, the agents intercepted:
  • 100 kg of dried red pepper exposed to dust and rodent droppings
  • 109 kg of unfit red meat
  • 56 kg of unfit chicken

Closure of Restaurants and Next Steps

Given the severity of the infractions and the blatant disregard for hygiene rules, three fast-food restaurants were shut down by administrative decision. The INSSPA stated that necessary legal procedures are underway to ensure consumer safety and security. The authority is taking measures to guarantee that food establishments in the region comply with hygiene standards and regulations to protect public health.
