Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) Releases Documentary on National Museum of Bardo

Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) has released a short documentary showcasing the National Museum of Bardo, which has been selected as part of a cooperation and media partnership project with the China Global Television Network (CGTN). The documentary is part of an international media initiative launched by CGTN, titled "Connecting the World through Museums," to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18, 2026.

A Glimpse into the National Museum of Bardo

The TAP contribution focuses on presenting the National Museum of Bardo, considered one of the most important museums in Africa and the Arab world, due to its international reputation and exceptional cultural heritage. The documentary features exterior scenes of the museum, as well as innovative artistic shots of its interior spaces, allowing the global public to discover this prestigious cultural monument through Chinese platforms targeting different nations and civilizations.

A Journey through the Museum

This journalistic work, lasting less than three minutes, takes the viewer on a visual journey through the story of a young Algerian girl named Aris, who coincidentally visited the museum on the day of filming with her family. The girl recounts her "journey" through the mosaics inside the museum, which is home to one of the most remarkable collections of mosaics in the world, earning it the nickname "Global Museum of Mosaics."

A Curious Eye

The camera follows Aris on an immersive stroll through the museum's corridors, revealing the richness of the places, the details of the mosaics, and the charged atmosphere of history that inhabits each room. This visual narrative also highlights the different civilizations that have marked the Tunisian territory over the centuries, revealing the cultural diversity of Tunisia through its great periods of history.

A Poetic Narrative

The short documentary is accompanied by a narrative text written in prose, recounting the experience of the visit and the child's inner journey through the museum's spaces. The narrative also unfolds in poetic verses signed by Anis Labidi, giving the work a contemplative dimension.

TAP's Contribution

TAP's contribution is part of the "Connecting the World through Museums" program launched by CGTN, confirming its commitment to promoting Tunisian culture and valuing the country's archaeological sites internationally through media content production.

CGTN's Broadcast

CGTN has broadcast the documentary on its official website and digital platforms, and will re-air it as part of a live program on May 18, 2026, at 12:00 PM Tunis time (7:00 PM Beijing time) to celebrate International Museum Day.

The Bardo Museum's International Recognition

The presence of the National Museum of Bardo, the only representative of Africa and the Arab world in this international event, holds particular importance. The museum's visibility will be ensured alongside museums and cultural institutions from China, Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and Greece. This international recognition of its historical and cultural value confirms the Bardo Museum's place among the most important cultural heritage sites in Africa and the Arab world.
