International Organization for the Protection of Mediterranean Children (OIPEM) Calls for a Ban on Firecrackers During Ramadan
The International Organization for the Protection of Mediterranean Children (OIPEM) has urged security authorities to prohibit the use of firecrackers (known locally as “fouchik”) throughout the month of Ramadan in order to safeguard children and the general public.
In a statement posted on its official website, the organization also appealed to regulatory bodies to intensify patrols and market inspections to prevent the sale of these hazardous items. OIPEM emphasized the need to enforce existing laws against violators and to hold offenders accountable.
The organization further called on parents to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities by refraining from purchasing firecrackers for their children, thereby avoiding unnecessary danger.
“When used indiscriminately and without safety measures, these products pose a real threat not only to children but also to the elderly, pregnant women, and all citizens,” the statement reads.
OIPEM warns that firecrackers can detonate in a child’s hand, causing severe injuries that may include serious burns or permanent bodily harm.
