Medical Breakthrough in Tunisia: Charles-Nicolle University Hospital Achieves Milestone with Robotic Surgery
The Charles-Nicolle University Hospital has achieved a medical feat, a first of its kind in Tunisia, marked by the success of a series of high-precision surgeries using robotic technology. The culmination of this advancement was the successful completion of the first robotic-assisted prostate removal (prostatectomy) last Friday.
This success was preceded, just a day earlier on December 18, by two other major interventions: the first involved the removal of a renal tumor with kidney preservation (partial nephrectomy), while the second was a total kidney removal (total nephrectomy).
These cutting-edge surgical interventions were supervised by a Tunisian medical team led by Professor Riadh Ben Slama, head of the surgical team, with the participation of Professor Alia El Jabri, head of the intensive care unit.
The Ministry of Health highlighted that the success of these operations confirms the ability of Tunisian public hospitals to adopt robotic surgery. This also testifies to the high competence of medical and paramedical staff, as well as their mastery of the latest therapeutic technologies. This qualitative step strengthens Tunisia's position in the field of advanced medicine and high-precision surgery.
