Match Recap: Espérance ST Holds On for a Draw
With only a minute left in regular time, Malian forward Aboubacar Diakité scored the equalizing goal, bringing the score to a 1-1 draw.
In an attempt to surprise Petro Atletico, coach Maher Kanzari opted for a high-pressing strategy. The "Sang et Or" team dominated the first 20 minutes of the game, but failed to capitalize on their chances. One notable example was Kousseila Boualia's weak shot, which was easily intercepted by Angolan goalkeeper Hugo Marques (9').
The team's intense pressure continued, with Abdramane Konaté leading a quick counter-attack that ultimately ended with him losing the ball on the last line. Florian Danho recovered the ball, but his shot was deflected into a corner (16'). A minute later, the team created their first major scoring opportunity: a cross from the left by Chiheb Jebali, headed by Florian Danho, but the ball hit the crossbar (17').
After the initial 20 minutes of intense play, the "Sang et Or" team's rhythm slowed down, and the Angolans began to come out of their shell. In the additional time of the first half, Ben Hmida managed to avert danger by preventing Hossi from shooting (45'+2).
At the start of the second half, luck turned against the Espérance ST team: Béchir Ben Saïd watched helplessly as Tiago Reis scored with a curled shot from 20 meters (49'). Despite Petro Atletico's opening goal, the "Sang et Or" team refused to give up. There were two missed opportunities by Konaté, one at 53' when his header hit the second post, and another at 70' when his shot was caught by the Angolan goalkeeper (79').
Just when hopes were beginning to fade, Aboubacar Diakité scored a crucial goal, heading in a cross from Ben Hmida into Marques' net (89'). This goal rewarded the team's efforts throughout the match.
