Total Lunar Eclipse to be Visible in Tunisia this Sunday
This Sunday, September 7, 2025, Tunisia will witness a spectacular celestial event: a total lunar eclipse visible from the moment of moonrise. This rare astronomical phenomenon can also be observed from several regions around the globe, including Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, as well as the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.
Eclipse Details
In Tunis, the Moon will appear on the horizon at 6:35 PM already fully eclipsed, offering observers a striking image of a "Blood Moon". The phenomenon will begin at 4:28 PM, reach its peak at 7:11 PM, and end at 9:55 PM, when the celestial body will definitively leave the shadow zone.
Scientific and Cultural Initiatives
To mark the event, several scientific and cultural initiatives are scheduled. The National Institute of Meteorology is organizing an open-to-the-public evening at its central headquarters under the theme "Astronomy for All". The program includes:
- Scientific explanations of the phenomenon
- Direct observation of the eclipsed Moon
- Discovery of Saturn, the Andromeda galaxy, and the Triangle galaxy
Astronomy Nights
The Tunis City of Sciences is also offering an astronomy night, allowing the public to follow the complete unfolding of the eclipse. Meanwhile, the Tataouine branch is organizing a similar evening, combining interactive workshops on the phases of the Moon, scientific conferences, and telescope observations, all led by specialists.
A Rare Opportunity for Tunisians
These three events offer Tunisians a rare opportunity to combine the pleasure of observation with scientific learning around a fascinating natural phenomenon.
