Tunisia Shines at the 79th Cannes Film Festival

As part of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the Tunisian pavilion, located in the international village "Pantiero," served as a central hub for professional meetings, promoting a few visions and projects, and debates around Tunisian cinema and its potential export to the international market.

A Hub for Professional Meetings and Debates

Throughout the festival, the pavilion hosted various activities marked by the presence of professionals and visitors, including producers, directors, actors, journalists, and experts in the film industry. In a relaxed atmosphere, reminiscent of the festival, this space represented a meeting point for exchanges and opportunities for collaboration.

Highlighting Tunisian Culture and Cinema

Among the highlights was the "Tunisia Day" event, which aimed to showcase the country's cultural and intangible heritage. Organized in the presence of festival guests and representatives, it allowed for the promotion of Tunisia's rich identity and increased visibility of the country. The pavilion also hosted a professional dialogue around Tunisian film festivals, their challenges, and perspectives for development on the international scene.

Strengthening Cooperation and Circulation of Tunisian Works

This meeting, moderated by directors Mokhtar Laâjimi and Afef ben Mahmoud, brought together directors of Arab and international film festivals, as well as programmers. It highlighted the challenges of the sector and the need to strengthen cooperation networks and the circulation of Tunisian works on the global stage. Consul General Nassim Khamassi and Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs Sobhi Saâdallah visited the pavilion, reflecting the same spirit.

Honoring Tunisian Talent

In the same vein, composer Amine Bouhafa was honored during the festival as part of the "Music Lesson" organized by the Sacem. A César Award winner for the original score of the film "Timbuktu" in 2014, he was presented as one of the major figures in music. The pavilion also hosted several professional meetings, including one dedicated to the attractiveness of Tunisia as a filming destination. Experts discovered the country's rich assets, including archaeological sites, desert landscapes, coastal areas, and urban environments.

Showcasing Tunisia's Competitiveness

These exchanges highlighted the professionalism of Tunisian technicians and reviewed the favorable logistical conditions, presenting the country as a competitive and attractive film hub. Through these meetings, Tunisia's participation in the Cannes Film Festival aims to strengthen the country's presence on the global film scene, support the dissemination of works, and value creative and technical skills. This dynamic is led jointly by the National Center for Cinema and Image, under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
