Tunisian Films Shine at the Cairo International Film Festival

The organizers of this edition have previously announced the selection of the Tunisian film "La Voix de Hend Sabry" by director Kaouther Ben Hania as the closing film of the festival, on November 21, following its coronation with the Silver Lion at the 82nd edition of the Venice Biennale.

International Competition

The film "Eghtirab" (Exil) by Mehdi Hmili, a co-production between Tunisia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, France, and Luxembourg, will be presented in the International Feature Film Competition, where it will compete alongside 12 films from various countries around the world.

Short Film Competition

Two other films, "Les Oiseaux ne migrent pas" (The Birds Don't Migrate) by Rami Jarbouï, a Tunisian-Qatari-German production, and "D'abord les joues rougissent, puis on s'habitue" (First the Cheeks Blush, Then We Get Used) by Mariam Ferjani, a Tunisian-Italian production, will participate in the Short Film Competition of this edition, which features 21 films in competition.

Arab Cinema Horizons Competition

In the Arab Cinema Horizons Competition, which features nine cinematic works, the two Tunisian films "Comme si elle n'avait pas été" (Kaan Lam Takoun) by Sara Abidi and "Le 13e Round" (Al Jawla 13) by Mohamed Ali Nahdi are in competition. Additionally, the film "Fête d'adieu" (Haflet Wadaa) by Sara Abidi will be part of the works that will be screened in the Selected Projects section of the 11th Cairo Film Connection (CFC), in the category of documentaries in development, which includes 5 films.

Cairo Film Connection (CFC)

The Cairo Film Connection (CFC) is a "co-production platform" within the Cairo International Film Festival, which "allows Arab filmmakers to expand their network of contacts in the field and receive the support they need to bring their films to life," according to the festival's official website. The CFC consists of three sections that will host 16 works this year: a section for films in the post-production phase, another for documentaries in development (non-fiction films), and a section for feature fiction films in development.

Tunisian Personalities at the Festival

Among the Tunisian cinematic personalities, director Leyla Bouzid will be present at the festival as a member of the jury of the International Competition, chaired by Turkish director and screenwriter Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The jury also includes Egyptians Nadine Khan and Basma, Italian editor Simona Paggi, Chinese director Gwan Hu, and Romanian director Bogdan Mirică.
