Mamelodi Sundowns Crowned African Champions After Draw in CAF Champions League Final
Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned African champions after a thrilling draw in the return leg of the CAF Champions League 2025-2026 final against AS FAR, ending 1-1 on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The South African team capitalized on their 1-0 victory in the first leg in South Africa.
AS FAR took the lead in the 40th minute when Mohamed Rabie Hrimat converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review following a foul on Reda Slim.
As the Moroccans seemed poised to head into halftime with the advantage, Mamelodi Sundowns managed to level the score in the 7th minute of added time in the first half thanks to a powerful shot from Tebogo Mokoena, who was set up by Tashreeq Matthews.
In the second half, AS FAR continued to push for a comeback and earned a second penalty in the 77th minute after a foul on Youssef El Fahli. However, Hrimat failed to convert this opportunity, allowing Sundowns to maintain their aggregate lead.
Despite intense pressure from the AS FAR players until the final minutes, Sundowns' defense remained solid, securing the result and handing the South African club their second continental title in history.
