Mamelodi Sundowns Wins Home Match Against AS FAR in CAF Champions League Final

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 1-0 victory at home against AS FAR in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final on Sunday.

The only goal of the match was scored by Aubrey Modiba in the 37th minute of the first half, with a stunning direct free kick that beat the Moroccan club's goalkeeper.

Following this first leg, AS FAR will be forced to win by a two-goal margin in the return match scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026, in front of their home crowd, in order to claim their second continental title in history and return to the top of African football after a 41-year wait.

The match was also marked by an unusual interruption at the start of the second half. The restart was delayed for approximately 25 minutes due to a sudden failure of the video assistant referee (VAR) system. After a 23-minute wait for the technology to be restored, referee Jean-Jacques Ndala finally allowed the match to resume.
