Tunisia’s Ministry of Trade Launches Night‑Time Economic Control Campaigns Ahead of Eid al‑Fitr
The Ministry of Trade has initiated night‑time economic control operations across the entire Tunisian territory, including Greater Tunis, to prepare for the upcoming Eid al‑Fitr period and to ensure transparency in commercial transactions.
According to Samir Khalfaoui, Director of Economic Research at the ministry, 20 control teams, reinforced by security services, will be deployed to monitor distribution channels and products intended for the celebrations. These inspections will focus particularly on:
- Confectionery items
- Clothing and footwear retailers
- Cafés
- Distribution of subsidised goods and their legal use
The aim of these campaigns is to prevent conditional sales and illegal price hikes, in line with Law No. 36 of 2015. The control teams are also tasked with drafting official reports for any infractions observed and forwarding them to the competent judicial authorities.
These night‑time operations complement the usual daily inspections and will continue until Eid al‑Fitr.
In addition, Samir Khalfaoui reminded that more than 8,000 economic violations have already been recorded during the first half of Ramadan, thanks to the mobilisation of over 150 control teams per day, coordinated with security services and the National Authority for Health Security.
This intensified monitoring reflects the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumers, guaranteeing fair access to consumer goods, and preventing abuses as religious festivities approach.
