Tunisia Relaunches MICE Tourism with Rich Cultural Offerings and Modernized Infrastructure
With a rich cultural offering, modernized infrastructure, and a strategic geographical position, Tunisia aims to reposition MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Events) tourism at the heart of its tourism recovery strategy. To relaunch tourism and attract a more diverse clientele, Tunisia is now focusing on the MICE segment, a business and group tourism sector that has been neglected for a long time but still has considerable potential. During a press conference held on September 24, the Director General of the Tunisian National Tourism Office, Mehdi Haloui, and the President of the Tunisia Convention Bureau, Mohamed Jerad, presented a clear vision: to reposition Tunisia as a reference destination for professional events in the Mediterranean. Tunisia, which has already hosted many MICE groups in the 2000s, intends to capitalize on its natural and cultural assets, as well as the modernization of its infrastructure. Its proximity to European markets, the richness of its heritage, and the variety of its tourist offerings are all levers to attract conference organizers, seminars, or incentive trips. The country has unique historical sites, perfectly adapted to hosting prestigious events. These include the ancient theaters of Carthage and Dougga, the Roman amphitheater of El Jem, and the Oudhna site, recently opened to events, located less than an hour from Tunis. International hotel chains have also strengthened their presence in the country: Hilton in Monastir, Radisson and Marriott in Tunis, Royal Tulip in Korbous, The Residence in Douz... In Tozeur, the new high-end brand The Mora (TUI group) will open its doors on November 1st. In terms of infrastructure, the country now has over a hundred conference rooms capable of accommodating more than 400 people each. Tunisian specialized agencies are also adapting to this relaunch, developing their international networks and creating representations in key markets. With this new orientation, Tunisia clearly shows its willingness to become an essential player in MICE tourism in the Mediterranean, combining authenticity, accessibility, and professionalism.
