Bizerte Bridge Project: A New Milestone in Infrastructure Development
The construction of the Bizerte bridge, dubbed the "permanent link of the city of Bizerte," is expected to be completed in September 2027, with a latest deadline of the fourth quarter of the same year, announced Lilia Sifaoui, General Director of the Bizerte Bridge Implementation Unit at the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, on Monday.
Project Progress and Technical Details
Speaking on Expeess Fl, Sifaoui assured that the project, entrusted to Chinese companies, is progressing at a steady pace and encountering no technical issues that could hinder its execution. She highlighted the importance of this infrastructure, considered the first of its kind in Africa and the second in the world due to its technical specifications and the type of concrete and metal structure used, representing a new generation of infrastructure.
Project Scope and Cost
The project spans an area of approximately 60 hectares, divided into 497 plots, including 115 owned by the state and 382 by private individuals, with an estimated expropriation cost of 45 million dinars. The bridge's structure will be a mix of concrete and steel, with double metal stays over a length of two kilometers. Its foundations will reach depths of 60 to 70 meters under the two main pillars, requiring 140,000 m³ of concrete. The metal framework will represent a total volume of 23,000 tons of imported, shaped, and installed steel.
Initial Cost and Significance
The initial global cost of the project is estimated at 750 million dinars, making it one of the most important infrastructure projects ever launched in Tunisia. The completion of the Bizerte bridge is expected to mark a significant milestone in the country's infrastructure development, showcasing its commitment to innovative and large-scale projects.
