Mixed Control Teams in Bizerte Seize 142 kg of Unfit Red Meat

Mixed control teams in Bizerte seized 142 kg of red meat unfit for consumption on Saturday, according to a regional official from the National Sanitary Security Institute of Food Products (INSSPA) speaking to the TAP agency.

Operation Details

This operation is part of the national and regional strategy to combat parallel trade, smuggling, and speculation. The campaign was jointly conducted by the regional brigade and the local brigade of the municipal police of Menzel Bourguiba, in coordination with INSSPA teams. The focus was on the transportation conditions of meat and derivatives, particularly along the Tunis-Menzel Bourguiba axis and at the entrance to the city.

Inspection and Seizure

A total of approximately 1,110 kg of meat was inspected, with some of it found not to conform to hygiene standards. Several reports were drawn up for non-compliance with health standards, related to the non-respect of the cold chain and irregular storage conditions. The entire shipment was transferred to the municipal slaughterhouse of Menzel Bourguiba for veterinary examination, resulting in the effective seizure of 142 kg of red meat, which was immediately destroyed under the supervision of the slaughterhouse veterinarian and in coordination with municipal services.

Outcome

The seizure and destruction of the unfit meat demonstrate the commitment of the authorities to ensuring the safety and quality of food products in the region. The operation highlights the importance of collaboration between different agencies and services in combating illegal activities and protecting public health.
