Inauguration of the Audio Library for the Visually Impaired in Bizerte

The regional library of Bizerte has inaugurated an audio library designed for the visually impaired and blind. This library is equipped with modern facilities and equipment, enabling visually impaired and blind individuals to study, read, and acquire knowledge with ease and speed. The library features:

  • Braille books
  • Audio books integrated into computers
  • A smart suitcase containing a talking pen in Arabic, French, and English, a speaker, and Bluetooth headphones

The director of the regional library of Bizerte, Sabiha Ben Jemaa, explained that the new audio library space is part of the cognitive empowerment project for the visually impaired and blind, implemented by the Public Reading Directorate within the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The setup was carried out in coordination with the regional library management and with the support of the Regional Commissioner for Cultural Affairs.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bizerte, Salem Ben Yacoub, stated to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency that this new educational achievement is of great importance and constitutes a qualitative, exemplary, and innovative addition to a social and solidarity-based Tunisia.

He added that this new cognitive space confirms the strong national and regional will to support all categories and strata of Tunisian society, particularly individuals with specific needs, including the visually impaired and blind, through an innovative and adapted educational program that strengthens their learning capacities and supports their active participation in society to achieve inclusive development.

He expressed his gratitude to all parties and structures that contributed to this achievement.

The inauguration ceremony of the audio library space took place in the presence of several notable figures, including:

  • Samia Bouallag, Delegate of Bizerte North
  • Houda Cheguir, Regional Delegate for Education
  • Faouzi Ben Guirat, Regional Delegate for Cultural Affairs
  • Representatives of the region's extended cultural and educational family
  • Regular users of the library, including students and pupils.
