Bizerte's Mobile Bridge to Reopen to Normal Traffic on Thursday
The Regional Director of Equipment in Bizerte, Naoufel Ben Alaya, announced on Wednesday that the mobile bridge in Bizerte will resume normal traffic flow in both directions starting from Thursday, April 30, 2026, around 4:00 am.
According to the same source, all recent works, including the coating, maintenance, and periodic maintenance of the metal structure of the bridge, are now completed and validated by a specialized technical control office. He expressed his gratitude to the efforts provided by technical, administrative, and security structures, as well as local and central support. He also commended the understanding of citizens regarding the importance of these works aimed at preserving this strategic work and ensuring its sustainability.
The companies responsible for the project, along with the technical services of the regional equipment directorate, will begin removing the separators installed during the construction phase tonight, around 8:00 pm. These interventions also include cleaning the site, pedestrian passages, and traffic lanes for all types of vehicles in both directions. The director invited users to continue respecting the instructions of the authorities on site.
In parallel with the restoration of road traffic, the three bus, taxi, and rental stations will regain their initial locations in the city of Bizerte from tomorrow morning.
It is worth noting that these maintenance works are part of a global modernization program for the bridge. This plan has already allowed for the arrangement of the staircase on the side of the Al Mokhtar mosque in Jarzouna, the creation of an access for people with special needs, and the renewal of the braking system with modern equipment. The interventions have also included the replacement of road joints, the reinforcement of directional lighting, the maintenance of safety railings along pedestrian passages, as well as painting and signaling works.
As part of the protection of this vital infrastructure, the bridge's operating system has been completely renovated, including electrical networks, fire safety devices, and global surveillance by cameras. Currently, a comprehensive technical control project of all mechanical devices and motors is underway by a licensed and specialized study office.
