Local Community Tourism Company in Bir Mcherga to Launch Ecotourism Project
The local community tourism company in Bir Mcherga is preparing to launch an ecotourism project, with work scheduled to start on November 25, according to Mohamed Habib Hajri, one of the company's founders, in an interview with "Jawhara FM".
Project Details
Hajri specified that the project will cover an area of approximately 6.5 hectares of state-owned land surrounding the Bir Mcherga dam. The initial cost is estimated at 300,000 dinars and could reach one million dinars as construction work progresses, with financing from the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS).
Project Components
The tourist project will include, in its first phases:
- A banquet and conference hall
- A restaurant and café
- A playground
- A tourist health trail
- Exploitation of the dam's waters for leisure activities, such as water sports (canoeing/kayaking)
Project Objectives
Hajri explained that the project idea was born in response to the weakness of the tourist fabric and the limitation of its components in the Zaghouan governorate, as well as the almost total absence of tourist facilities in the Bir Mcherga delegation. He also highlighted the desire to enhance the natural and ecological heritage of the Bir Mcherga dam and its surroundings. He stated that the community company, which has 53 subscribers with a capital of 10,600 dinars, seeks, in addition to its economic and profitable objective, to support the environmental dimension by contributing to the protection of the dam's waters against pollution and the preservation of its natural environment.
Project Status
Hajri added that the legal and administrative procedures for finalizing the project launch and obtaining financing are in their final stages.
