Annual Conference on Strengthening the Rights-Based Approach in the Interior Sector

The Tunisian Minister of Interior, Khaled Nouri, highlighted during the third annual conference on "Efforts to Strengthen the Rights-Based Approach in the Interior Sector" that the Tunisian Constitution enshrines principles and choices regarding rights and imposes the promotion of citizenship values and the guarantee of all rights, including economic and social rights and the right to live in a safe and balanced environment.

The Minister also indicated that digital transformation is now a strategic choice for the ministry, due to the opportunities it offers to improve performance, reorganize procedures, and simplify them.

According to Nouri, Tunisia has made significant progress, particularly in the fight against crime and irregular immigration, while protecting all individuals present on its territory, in accordance with the Constitution, national legislation, and international treaties.

The Minister further affirmed his ministry's commitment to valuing the efforts of its agents, emphasizing the importance of training and capacity building to consolidate achievements and reach objectives, within the framework of citizen security and social stability.

On her part, Ahlam Kharbach, Director General of Legal Studies and Litigation at the Ministry, specified that the modernization of the legal framework concerning the national identity card and passport aims not only to follow technological developments and improve technical aspects but also to promote a rights-based approach, ensuring the protection of citizens' identity and personal data.

According to Kharbach, the biometric national identity card and biometric passport will enable citizens to benefit from a secure legal identity, reinforcing equality, transparency, and the protection of fundamental rights, regardless of their social, economic, educational, health, or cultural situation.

She also emphasized that these projects constitute major reforms within the framework of digital transformation, aiming to simplify administrative procedures and accelerate the provision of public services.
