Ministry of Interior Announces Practical Solutions to Alleviate Traffic Congestion in Ben Arous Region

Background

In response to a written question submitted by Assembly of the People's Representatives (ARP) member Olfa Marouani, the Ministry of Interior has announced the development of practical solutions to mitigate traffic congestion in the Ben Arous region, particularly on the Avenue de France.

Study to Identify Causes of Congestion

According to a statement published on the ARP's official website, the competent authorities responsible for road circulation are currently conducting a comprehensive study to accurately identify the causes of congestion in this heavily trafficked area. This study will also enable the implementation of an integrated traffic plan aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow as soon as possible.

Key Objectives of the Traffic Plan

The Ministry emphasizes that the plan must balance public safety, user mobility needs, and pedestrian safety. The plan will aim to:

  • Reduce congestion and improve traffic fluidity
  • Ensure public safety
  • Meet the mobility needs of users
  • Protect pedestrian safety

Context of the Issue

In her written question, Assembly member Olfa Marouani denounced a situation of "paralyzing traffic" on the Avenue de France in the Ben Arous delegation, stating that disruptions persist throughout the day and are not limited to peak hours. She also recalled having previously raised the issue with the Ministry of Interior through an oral question, requesting the reopening of the Ibn Arafa quarter access road, which was closed due to the installation of barriers and stone blocks at the National Security and National Guard facilities. According to her, this closure has exacerbated traffic difficulties in the area.
