Belgium to Recognize the State of Palestine at UN General Assembly Sessions
Brussels, 2 September 2025 – Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot announced on Tuesday that Belgium will formally recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the minister explained that Belgium will join the signatories of the New York Declaration, thereby paving the way for the implementation of a two‑state solution. He also stressed that Belgium will impose strict sanctions on the Zionist government.
“In light of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Palestine, especially in Gaza, and the violence perpetrated by the Zionist regime in blatant violation of international law, and given our international commitments—including the duty to prevent any risk of genocide—Belgium must take strong decisions to increase pressure on the Zionist government,” Prévot said in a statement released on X.
