Redistribution of Red Meat at Preferential Prices Continues in Kasserine

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the "producer to consumer" sales point at the Kasserine municipal market continues to offer red meat at preferential prices. This initiative, launched on Monday to coincide with Eid al-Adha, aims to alleviate the financial burden on households and enable low-income individuals to purchase meat at prices adapted to their purchasing power.

According to Samir Dhibi, director of the Oued Ed-Darb agricultural complex in Kasserine, which is part of the Office des terres domaniales (OTD), the sales point offers quantities of beef over two days. "This is an unprecedented intervention for the Eid period, motivated by the surge in prices of sacrificial sheep this year," he explained. Mr. Dhibi added that the operation began with the supply of meat from four calves and that additional quantities will be injected if the high demand from citizens persists.

Preferential Prices

The prices have been set at 39 dinars per kilogram for boneless meat and 28 dinars per kilogram for meat with bones. These prices, considered preferential compared to those on the general market, directly support the purchasing power of low-income families before the holiday. The official noted that the sales point experienced a strong influx of visitors from the early morning hours, followed by a calmer pace in the late afternoon. He stated that all visitors received a favorable response to their requests.

Sales Details

The sales take place daily from 08:00 to 16:00, following the slaughter of animals at the municipal abattoir in Kasserine. The process is strictly supervised by regional health and control authorities to ensure the product's safety and compliance with hygiene rules.

In this context, Mr. Dhibi concluded by emphasizing that "the calves come directly from the Oued Ed-Darb agricultural complex's fattening center," and that the sales point remains active throughout the year to offer other basic products, such as eggs and olive oil, at advantageous prices.
