National Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Calls for Urgent Intervention

The National Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) has called on the Governor of the Central Bank to take urgent action to facilitate banking procedures related to the acceptance of foreign currency transfers, allowing young people and businesses to receive their dues without bureaucratic obstacles that hinder economic activity and undermine the trust climate.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Association expressed its great concern over the blockages faced by a number of young people and owners of startups and small businesses regarding their foreign currency revenues from their activities in various fields, particularly in the digital services and export sectors.

The Association also drew attention to the urgent need to revise the current Exchange Code and modernize it to be in line with economic and digital developments, allowing anyone who exports services or goods to bring in foreign currencies with ease and transparency.

In this context, the Association emphasized that the true employment prospects in Tunisia today rely on the export of services and emerging professions, which depend essentially on independent work (freelance) as a modern and widely adopted form of employment in most countries of the world. It added that this new model represents a strategic opportunity to create wealth, absorb young skills, and attract foreign currencies through innovative and direct means.

The Association noted that any delay in this process would cause Tunisia to lose real opportunities to obtain foreign currencies and weaken its competitiveness in regional and international markets. The Association affirmed that simplifying procedures, digitizing transactions, and eliminating excessive bureaucracy are essential keys to increasing the country's foreign currency resources and stimulating the national economy.
