Central Bank of Tunisia Announces New 20‑Dinar Banknote (Type 2017)
The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) has announced that, starting 16 February 2026, a new 20‑dinar banknote (type 2017) will be put into circulation.
In a note addressed on 16 February 2026 to all banks and to the National Postal Office, the BCT clarified that the new note:
- Retains legal tender status and liberating power – it can be used for all payments just like the current 20‑dinar note of the same type.
- Keeps the same motifs, security features, and overall design as the existing note, except for the following changes:
| Change | Old Version | New Version |
|---|---|---|
| Date of issue | “25‑7‑2017” | “25‑07‑2025” (printed in a larger font) |
| Signatures | Governor Fethi Zouhaier Nouri and Vice‑Governor Mourad Abdessalem in standard red | Same signatures printed in a softer, dark‑red colour and in a larger size |
| Horizontal tactile lines for the visually impaired | Red colour | Dark‑red colour |
Note: The new 20‑dinar note (type 2017) will circulate concurrently with the existing 20‑dinar notes of the same denomination and type that are already in circulation.
