The Ministry of the Interior clarified that, following coordination among the relevant security services, it has been decided to keep the concrete and metal barriers installed in front of the French Embassy as well as around the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Tunis.
According to the ministry, these measures are put in place to secure diplomatic missions and do not constitute an obstacle to road traffic or pedestrian movement.
This clarification comes in response to a written question submitted by Member of Parliament Mohamed Amine Ouerghi to the Assembly of the People’s Representatives, concerning the removal of the barriers surrounding the French Embassy, the statue of Ibn Khaldoun, and the Saudi Arabian Embassy.
The information was published on Thursday on the official website of the Assembly of the People’s Representatives.
In the same context, the Interior Department emphasized that the installation of these barriers will be reviewed whenever the situation requires it, based on the evolution of the overall security situation in the country.
It also noted that the barriers installed around the statue of Ibn Khaldoun, located on Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis, were placed within the perimeter of the fixed‑point area of the national army units deployed near the statue.
