Le Club Africain Falls Short of BAL 2026 Quarterfinals
The Club Africain narrowly missed out on a spot in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 quarterfinals. On Saturday, in the first leg of the quarterfinals, the Clubistes suffered a one-point defeat (87-88) at the hands of Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi in a thrilling match.
Al Ahly Benghazi took control of the game from the outset. With a more aggressive attack and impressive long-range shooting, the Libyans suffocated the Club Africain in the first quarter (15-28).
Shaken, the Rouge et Blanc regained their footing before the break. Thanks to a more solid defense and regained efficiency, they took the second quarter (31-21), and went into halftime with only a three-point deficit (46-49).
A nail-biting duel ensued in the second half. Despite the Club Africain's efforts to turn the tide, Al Ahly Benghazi managed to maintain control at the end of the third quarter (65-69).
The final quarter was an intense affair. The Clubistes pushed until the final seconds to snatch victory, but ultimately fell short by a hair's breadth (87-88).
