Estimated Cost of Back to School Expenses in Tunisia
The statistical structures of the Ministry of Commerce have estimated the cost of back to school expenses (backpack, uniform, and basic supplies) to be:
- 153 dinars for the first year of primary school
- 229 dinars for the seventh year of primary school
- 276 dinars for the fourth year of secondary school This was revealed by Ramzi Trabelsi, Director of the National Observatory of Supply and Prices at the Ministry of Commerce.
During an interview on Monday morning, September 8, 2025, on the national radio show "Youm Saïd" (Good Day), Trabelsi specified that this cost could increase by 30% if consumers opt for international brands. He also emphasized that these amounts only cover the backpack, uniform, and basic supplies, and do not include other expenses. He added that the purchase of school supplies remains slow.
Trabelsi further indicated that the price of subsidized notebooks has been maintained at the same rates as in previous years, recalling that:
- Notebook number 12 costs 230 millimes
- Notebook number 24 costs 460 millimes
- Notebook number 48 costs 950 millimes
- Notebook number 72 costs 1400 millimes
