Facing the Alarming Rise of Female Cancers in Africa
In the face of the alarming progression of female cancers in Africa, marked by significant inequalities in access to care and persistent health, social, and economic challenges, a ambitious pan-African initiative is born: the African Women's Global Health Organization in Oncology (AWGHO).
A Collective Vision for Change
Bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, and committed stakeholders from the continent, as well as a broad network of public institutions, learned societies, patient associations, local communities, and international experts, this alliance shares a common vision: to transform the care of cancer in Africa by placing women at the heart of the care pathway, through a comprehensive, human, integrative, and collaborative approach.
A Holistic Approach to Oncology
AWGHO defends a holistic vision of oncology, which goes far beyond medical treatment. The Alliance aims to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of women with cancer, so that no one faces the disease in isolation. Its ambition is to offer comprehensive, continuous, and supportive care throughout the care pathway, taking into account the cultural, social, and health realities specific to African contexts.
Patient-Centered Care
At the heart of the AWGHO model is the "patient-partner" approach, which recognizes women as true actors in their healing process. Regular discussion groups, led jointly by healthcare professionals and patients who have already experienced the disease, provide safe spaces for exchange, mutual support, and sharing of experiences. This participatory dynamic strengthens individual and collective resilience, while enriching healthcare practices through the expertise of patients' experiences.
Accessible Support and Resources
In the same logic of accessibility and proximity, the Alliance plans to make a call center available to women across Africa, to respond in real-time to their various requests, questions, and needs for guidance. This device aims to strengthen information, listening, and support, and to facilitate access to adapted resources throughout the care pathway.
A Reference Actor in the Fight Against Female Cancers
Through this approach, AWGHO aspires to become a reference actor in the fight against female cancers in Africa, contributing to the construction of a sustainable, inclusive, and solidarity-based ecosystem for the global health of women.
Join the Movement
Institutions, healthcare professionals, associations, citizens, and stakeholders are invited to join this collective movement to build, together, a continent where every woman benefits from quality care, respectful of her dignity and experience.
