Visteon Opens Research and Innovation Center in Tunis
A research and innovation center of the American company Visteon, specialized in the manufacture of automotive components and software, electronic, and mechanical engineering, was inaugurated on Friday in Tunis. Employing 200 Tunisian engineers, this center is expected to create new jobs to reach 500 engineers in the coming years, said Afef Chachi, chief of staff of the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, on this occasion. She emphasized that it marks a "significant advance" in allowing the transition from component manufacturing to the training of talents capable of developing innovative solutions for Visteon in Tunisia and internationally. Present in the country since 2005, the company has already created 560 jobs and plans to reach 900 by 2028, with nearly 40% of management positions. Visteon, which has 14 factories and 18 R&D centers worldwide, specializes in intelligent electronic systems, air conditioning, and lighting for major automotive brands, ensuring more than 10,000 jobs globally. The chief of staff recalled the importance of the Tunisian automotive component sector, which has more than 300 companies and 120,000 jobs, with exports reaching $3 billion in 2024. For Visteon's President and CEO, Sachin Lawande, this center will serve as a strategic engineering hub and will enable the company to strengthen its presence in the Tunisian technological and industrial ecosystem by creating high-value-added jobs. "Tunisia has very good skills, which is why we chose this country to expand our activities in manufacturing, engineering, and design," he specified. On her part, the president of the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA), Namia Ayadi, affirmed that Tunisia is today "an attractive site for high-value-added investments thanks to Tunisian skills," highlighting Visteon's choice to establish itself in the country.
