Australian authorities deployed drones and a helicopter on Sunday to monitor the waters of a Sydney beach, following the death of a surfer who was attacked by a large great white shark the previous day.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning, approximately 100 meters off the coast of Long Reef Beach, north of the city. The victim, an experienced surfer, was brought back to shore by other surfers but succumbed to his injuries after suffering significant blood loss.
Significance of the Incident
This incident marks the first shark attack-related death in Sydney since February 2022 and the first recorded fatal incident in the city since 1963.
Investigation and Response
According to authorities, the shark responsible for the attack is estimated to be between 3.4 and 3.6 meters in length. This attack brings the total number of shark-related deaths in Australia to four since the beginning of 2025.
