Direct‑to‑Consumer Date Market Thrives in Ariana’s El Menzah VI

El Menzah VI square, located in the Ariana City delegation, is witnessing an exceptional surge in commercial activity thanks to a direct‑to‑consumer sales point dedicated exclusively to dates.

The initiative, driven by the Joint Professional Group of Dates in partnership with the Ariana municipality, brings together 24 producers from the governorates of Kébili and Tozeur. Its dual aim is to support citizens’ purchasing power and highlight the value of this national product.

“The Best Taste and Quality at the Best Prices”

Under the slogan “The best taste and quality at the best prices,” the outlet offers a wide range of high‑quality dates priced between 3 TD and 12 TD per kilogram. It also sells derived products such as date sugar and date syrup.

These offers are especially relevant for Tunisians during Ramadan, a period when date consumption spikes dramatically.

“The opening of this sales point has been extended until Sunday, 29 February 2026, to allow as many citizens as possible to benefit from it,” said Sami Bejaoui, Regional Director of Commerce and Export Development in Ariana.

Positive Reception from Consumers and Producers

  • Consumers praised the initiative for its favourable quality‑to‑price ratio.
  • Producers emphasized that direct sales points are the most effective way to showcase Tunisian farmers’ work and to protect consumers from speculation.

According to the Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural Investments, Tunisia exports more than 30 % of its annual date production to international markets, underscoring the economic weight of this national product.
