Economic Control Services Seize Three Tons of Illegally Stored Potatoes
The economic control services of the Ariana regional trade directorate, in coordination with the Ariana North national security center, the La Soukra municipal police, and the National Food Safety Authority, seized three tons of potatoes that were illegally stored in a chaotic warehouse located in the El Mansoura area, under the jurisdiction of the La Soukra delegation.
The seized quantities were prepared for sale as peeled potatoes for frying, without their owner having documents attesting to the legality of their acquisition or possession, and outside of any regulatory framework.
In a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency, the regional trade director, Sami Bejaoui, indicated that the seized products were reinjected into the national wholesale market of Bir El Kassâa, specializing in fruits and vegetables, while their financial value was consigned to the public treasury.
Meanwhile, the security services established a judicial report against the offender for possessing products for speculative purposes without fulfilling the legal conditions for exercising commercial activity, after consulting the public prosecutor.
On its part, the National Food Safety Authority drew up a health infringement for the commercialization of an unsafe and non-compliant product with the prevailing hygiene rules, according to the same source.
This operation is part of the strengthened efforts of the authorities to combat anarchic storage practices, speculation, and the marketing of food products that do not respect health standards.
