National Security Directorate Launches Targeted Security Campaign
The National Security Directorate announced on Thursday, in a statement, the launch of a targeted security campaign in the Ariana governorate, aiming at suspicious individuals, including irregular migrants. This operation led to the arrest of several people for illegal stay and the taking of judicial measures against them. According to the same source, this campaign coincided with the arrest of the alleged perpetrators of an assault on a woman from sub-Saharan Africa, which occurred in the Soukra region. The facts, filmed and broadcast on social media on Wednesday, show the victim being robbed of her belongings under the threat of a white weapon by two individuals. The security units, relying on the descriptions and reports broadcast, managed to arrest two suspects matching the characteristics identified, accompanied by a third African national, whose involvement in the assault was confirmed. The authorities specified that, so far, the victim has not filed an official complaint with the competent services. After consultation, the Public Prosecutor's Office near the Court of First Instance of Ariana authorized the opening of a judicial investigation for robbery with violence, as well as the placement of the suspects in custody. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior indicated that simultaneous security operations, carried out on the night of February 11-12 in various areas of Greater Tunis, resulted in the arrest of 209 wanted individuals involved in serious criminal cases, including drug trafficking and robbery with violence. These operations also led to the seizure of various quantities of drugs, including psychotropic tablets, cocaine, and cannabis, as well as sums of money from illicit activities. The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its willingness to pursue and intensify security operations, targeting public spaces, residential neighborhoods, and the surroundings of educational institutions, in order to preserve public order, protect citizens, and ensure security throughout the national territory.
