Mahdia Launches Nationwide Campaign to Get Ready for the New Tourist Season

Mahdia Makes a Comeback: A Nationwide Campaign to Beautify the City

The city of Mahdia has launched a nationwide campaign called "Mahdia Makes a Comeback" throughout the month of May 2026. This initiative is part of the preparations to welcome the new tourist season, with the slogan: "Joining Forces for a Cleaner and More Beautiful Mahdia."

The municipal and citizen-led action plan is centered around several key axes. It includes:

  • Beach Cleaning Campaigns: Efforts to clean up the beaches and collect plastic waste
  • Port and Tourist Zone De-Pollution: Initiatives to de-pollute the old port and tourist area
  • Public Space Maintenance: Maintenance of public paths and squares
  • Renovation of Facades: Refreshing the white and blue-painted facades to reinforce the medina's visual identity
  • Public Lighting Improvement: Enhancing public lighting, particularly on the corniche and main entrances
  • Ornamental Plantation: Planting ornamental plants and beautifying the narrow streets of the old town

It's worth noting that Mahdia's tourist indicators have experienced a significant rebound and remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2026. The region has seen a 40.4% increase in the number of visitors (21,137 tourists by the end of April) compared to 2025.

A growth of 10% to 15% in the number of tourists is expected for this season, with all hotel units in the region fully prepared. These figures confirm the return of Mahdia as a major tourist destination.
