28 People Killed in Illegal Gold Mine Collapse in Angola

According to a statement from the Angolan police, 28 people have lost their lives in the collapse of an illegally operated gold mine in Angola. The victims, aged between 18 and 40 years old, were buried under the rubble after a landslide occurred in the Bingo province, located in the north-east of the capital city Luanda.

The accident took place in the village of Kanakasala, approximately 60 kilometers from Luanda, where the victims were engaged in clandestine gold panning activities. Tragically, 13 of the deceased belonged to the same family.

Rescue teams are continuing their search operations on the site to determine if any other victims or survivors may still be trapped under the debris.

According to the regional government, this is the first reported fatal accident linked to the illegal extraction of gold in this area.
