Tunisian Olive Oil Compound May Help Prevent Alzheimer's Disease, Says International Expert Mohamed Bouaziz

A chemical compound present in Tunisian olive oil could contribute to preventing Alzheimer's disease, according to international olive oil expert Mohamed Bouaziz. He stated that recent scientific studies have highlighted the effectiveness of a specific compound detected in Tunisian oil, which is capable of strengthening protection against this neurodegenerative pathology.

Bouaziz made these remarks during the fourth edition of the international congress "From the Olive Tree to Oil: Towards Sustainable Production and Distinction in the Global Market," organized by the Higher Institute of Biotechnology in Sfax. He emphasized that the benefits of olive oil are now scientifically established, particularly for the prevention of several diseases. Among the confirmed effects are improved concentration in children, prevention of cardiovascular diseases, and contribution to regulating blood sugar levels.

Regarding the new rules governing olive oil exports, the expert indicated that they primarily focus on the purity of the product and the complete absence of any plastic residue. He also stressed the need for enhanced control over phytosanitary treatments, which must be carried out at the right time to ensure a healthy product that meets international requirements.

According to him, respecting the required acidity level and eliminating any impurities are essential conditions for preserving the quality of Tunisian olive oil intended for export. Bouaziz concluded by stating that paying attention to these technical criteria will enable Tunisia to maintain its position among the world's leading exporters of high-quality olive oil.
