Ali Barouni Represents Tunisia in the Glider Plane Competition
Held as Part of the Hot Air Balloon and Glider Plane Forum in Djerba
Ali Barouni, a native of Djerba, is proudly representing Tunisia in the glider plane competition at the Hot Air Balloon and Glider Plane Forum. The event, taking place from October 24 to November 1, 2025, aims to promote Tunisia as a tourist destination and contribute to the development of the sector.
A Unique Opportunity for Tunisia
As the only Tunisian participant in the competition, Ali Barouni is eager to showcase his skills and promote his country's tourist attractions. The forum, which brings together participants from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Eastern Europe, will take place on the island of Djerba before moving to Douz and Tozeur.
A Passion for Glider Planes
Proud of his glider plane, Ali Barouni performed a demonstration amidst a multitude of hot air balloons and glider planes, alongside Tunisian and foreign pilots. He stated, "I am happy to contribute, even modestly, to the promotion of our tourist destination and the development of the sector, not only in Djerba but throughout Tunisia."
A Journey of Discovery
Ali Barouni shared his journey into the world of glider planes: "I knew nothing about this world until my children gave me a glider plane for my 59th birthday. Since then, my passion has only grown. I followed a training course and obtained a certificate upon my retirement. In 2016, I joined the Tunisian Aviation Association."
A Commitment to Promotion
Through his association with the Tunisian Aviation Association, Ali Barouni has participated in numerous commemorative activities and local events, including those in Tozeur, Siliana, Makthar, Ksar, Béja, and Sfax. He also celebrated the centenary of the Espérance Sportive with a spectacle featuring the Tunisian flag.
A Vision for Tunisia's Tourism
For Ali Barouni, participating in this forum is an opportunity to showcase Tunisia as a tourist destination and stimulate the economy. "I hope that these events will help extend the tourist season and diversify the offer between beach tourism, desert and oasis tourism, while highlighting the country's hidden treasures," he added.
A Strategic Approach to Tourism
The organizers of the forum emphasize that the event aims to broaden the traditional image of Tunisian tourism, focusing on ecological, sports, wellness, cultural, and business tourism, in line with the Ministry of Tourism's strategy to prolong the season and reduce the strictly seasonal nature of the activity.
