Palestinian Writer and Diplomat Ali Abdallah Denounces Double Standards in International Law

In a recent interview with the national radio, Palestinian writer and diplomat Ali Abdallah shed light on the double standards of international law, analyzed the colonial Zionist project, and reaffirmed the unbreakable Palestinian resistance. Abdallah painted a clear picture of the challenges that shape the future of the Palestinian people.

Abdallah recalled that in 1948, Palestine was occupied by the Zionist movement, supported by Western powers, through force and violence, with systematic massacres. Over 530 Palestinian localities were razed, including the village of Deir Yassin, and more than 14,000 urban and rural settlements were destroyed in what is known as historical Palestine. The United Nations Resolution 181, which envisioned the creation of two states, was applied to the Zionist entity but remained a dead letter for the Palestinians. The refusal of Arab states to accept this resolution at the time had consequences that the Gaza Strip still suffers from today.

The Nakba Continues

The Nakba, or catastrophe, is not a relic of the past; it continues to this day. The Israeli occupation supports settlers in their endeavor to modify the demographic makeup, annex land, and expel the Palestinian people through extreme violence, in blatant violation of international law. This is a new war of extermination aimed at replacing the population, a constant ambition since 1948 to 2023. The population of the 14 refugee camps in the West Bank targeted by the occupying army embodies the Palestinian cause: political rights and self-determination. The Palestinian national revolution was built on the claim to the right of return enshrined in Resolution 194, which has never been implemented.

Double Standards in International Law

Abdallah denounced the application of double standards in international law: whenever it comes to Palestine, double measures are imposed, while the slightest incident involving an Israeli triggers an immediate reaction. Palestinians have signed agreements with the occupation under international legitimacy and have submitted to UN resolutions, but no commitment has ever been respected regarding their rights. He reaffirmed the Palestinian people's attachment to the principles of international law and human rights, calling for the same balance to be applied to all.

A Devastated Population

The former diplomat described a population of two million Palestinians destroyed, a society devastated at 90%, families lacking food, clean water, and schools, and ruins where the bodies of children still lie. He appealed to the international community: until when will the Palestinian people pay with their blood for the strategic calculations of others? He demanded concrete political actions: genuine recognition of the Palestinian state and the rights of the Palestinian people on par with other peoples.

The Palestinian Cause at the Heart of Regional Conflicts

Every conflict in the region directly affects the Palestinian question, as it is the root cause of these wars. As long as the political rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people are not restored, and an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital is not established, peace will remain inaccessible. Palestinians have tried the path of negotiation, particularly through the Oslo Accords, and have made numerous concessions, but the world always returns to defending its interests. The Iran-US conflict is paying its price to the inhabitants of Gaza, in the indifference of the international community reduced to empty declarations.

The Project of Deportation and Palestinian Resistance

The writer considers that the central objective of the war waged by Benjamin Netanyahu with American support is the forced deportation of the inhabitants of Gaza, then the West Bank, to eliminate the Palestinian presence. This Zionist project has failed in the face of the resistance of the entire Palestinian people, who have replied: no to deportation, no to abandoning the land. Palestinians are the legitimate owners of this land, and the Zionist occupation is transitory. Rome, France, Germany, the Ottoman Empire have all disappeared; even if the occupation were to last a thousand years, the Palestinian people will remain on their land and preserve their national identity. The Zionist entity is doomed to disappear.

Hope in the Face of Darkness

International recognitions of the Palestinian state by the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, France, and others constitute an unprecedented tremor in European civil societies, a signal of hope that the Palestinian people must seize. In the face of attempts to annul the Oslo Accords by the Knesset, Abdallah observed that Oslo no longer exists on the ground, but the return of over 1.65 million Palestinians to their soil thanks to these accords is a concrete achievement. No Arab army has come to liberate Palestine, and no external initiative has offered Palestinian rights as a free gift. Resistance, political, legal, military, and cultural, remains the only path. The supreme challenge is to remain on Palestinian land and maintain a Palestinian life. The intervener called for international protection against an occupier who knows neither humanity nor universal norms.
