The Plight of Algerian Travelers Stuck in Dubai Remains Worrisome
While Emirates has gradually resumed some operations since Saturday, March 7, the airline has not scheduled any flights to Algeria for the coming days. In contrast, flights to neighboring destinations—particularly Tunisia (Tunis) and Morocco (Casablanca)—still appear in the airline’s partial restart schedule.
According to the Visa Algérien website, passengers who have confirmed their bookings are invited to go to the airport, but Algerian travelers trying to reach Algiers find that the destination is not yet available on Emirates’ reservation platform. As shown, the message displayed when searching for flights to Algiers reads:
“No flights match the dates or itinerary you searched for.”
In Dubai Airport’s daily flight program, no flights to Algeria are planned for Monday, March 9, nor for Tuesday, March 10.
Air Algérie Suspends Flights for an Extended Period
The national carrier Air Algérie confirmed last Friday the prolonged suspension of its flights to Dubai, as well as to Doha, Beirut, and Amman, citing the ongoing situation in the Middle East. This decision greatly complicates the situation for Algerians wishing to leave the United Arab Emirates. So far, no official evacuation solution has been announced by the Algerian consular representation in Dubai.
Evacuation Plans in Doha and Muscat
Conversely, the Algerian consulates in Doha (Qatar) and Muscat (Oman) have set up evacuation plans that allow travelers to reach Saudi Arabia by land and obtain transit‑visa assistance in coordination with the Algerian embassy in Riyadh.
For Algerians in Dubai, the only viable option is to organise their own trips via neighboring countries such as Saudi Arabia or Oman—an approach that remains difficult and costly. By comparison, Emirates continues to operate flights to Tunisia and Morocco, providing more immediate solutions for nationals stranded in the region.
What This Means for Algerian Travelers
- Regularly check flight schedules on airline and airport websites.
- Monitor consular advisories for updates on evacuation or transit options.
- Take advantage of the open routes to Tunisia and Morocco, which allow for quicker onward travel.
The continued operation of Tunisian and Moroccan flights demonstrates how proactive consular coordination can keep travel corridors open, whereas Algerian citizens remain blocked in Dubai due to the lack of direct flights and official evacuation measures.
Stay informed, stay prepared, and keep an eye on both airline announcements and consular guidance to navigate this evolving situation.
