Italian Ambassador to Tunisia Expresses Confidence in Country's Energy Transition Goals

The Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas, has expressed his confidence in Tunisia's ability to achieve its ambitious energy transition goals, stating that the country possesses all the necessary skills and capabilities to succeed.

In a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency on Wednesday, during the opening of the International Energy Transition Exhibition, Prunas emphasized the importance of encouraging private investment in this sector. He noted that Tunisia is on the right track and must intensify its efforts to achieve energy transition, highlighting that this is a "common goal between Tunisia and Italy, and it is achievable."

Prunas explained that energy cooperation between Tunisia and Italy dates back to the 1960s, with the construction of the gas pipeline connecting Italy to Algeria, which has become a strategic achievement not only for Italy but also for Tunisia. He added, "Our goal today is to work together to take advantage of the opportunities offered by cooperation in energy transition," noting that both Tunisia and Italy face a common challenge, which is decarbonization.

The Ambassador affirmed that Tunisia has unique capabilities in the field of renewable energy production and decarbonization. "This is why we are working on interconnection projects that help Tunisia strengthen its energy self-sufficiency and independence, and support its ability to export excess renewable energy production," he said.
