Verdict Rendered in High-Profile Corruption Case
The specialized criminal chamber for financial corruption cases at the Court of Appeal delivered its verdict on Thursday, February 12, 2026. While the court confirmed the guilt of businessman Chafik Jarraya, it decided to reduce his prison sentence from three to two years, along with a fine of over two million dinars.
Regarding the other defendants, the chamber dropped the charges against former Tunis Mayor Abbès Mohsen and a former municipal official, applying the law on administrative reconciliation. Furthermore, the public action was declared extinct concerning the late President Ben Ali due to his death.
To recall, this case involves the construction by Chafik Jarraya of a building located near Tunis-Carthage International Airport. According to the judicial file, the building was erected in blatant violation of urban planning and security regulations in force.
