Minister of Economy and Planning Receives AIIB Delegation
The Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, received on Monday, December 1, 2025, Supee Teravaninthorn, Special Advisor to the Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), accompanied by her delegation, as part of a working visit to Tunisia.
Background of the Visit
This visit follows the exchanges held between the Minister and the President of the AIIB during the institution's annual meeting, organized in Beijing at the end of June. The two parties had then agreed to send a technical mission to Tunisia to examine the country's development programs and priorities for the coming years.
AIIB's Commitment to Tunisia's Development
Supee Teravaninthorn emphasized that this mission reflects the AIIB's willingness to better understand Tunisia's development orientations and evaluate financing opportunities in priority sectors supported by the Bank, including water, renewable energy, transportation, and infrastructure. She reaffirmed the AIIB's availability to study the projects that Tunisia plans to present and mobilize the necessary financing for their implementation.
Alignment of National Priorities with AIIB's Financing Axes
For his part, Samir Abdelhafidh highlighted the importance of this visit, which constitutes an opportunity to align national priorities with the AIIB's financing axes. He recalled that the areas favored by the Bank fully correspond to the strategic orientations of the Tunisian state, particularly in terms of transportation, energy transition, water resource management, and infrastructure development.
Future Cooperation between Tunisia and AIIB
The Minister also expressed his wish to see a solid and lasting cooperation established between Tunisia and the AIIB in the coming months, paving the way for a structuring partnership in the medium and long term. It is worth noting that Tunisia has been a member of the AIIB since 2022, a multilateral financial institution that now has 110 member countries.
